The first crossing was made in the 1935-6 season by J H Gilkison and S D Divers who, after attempting the south ridge of Green from Climbers Col, crossed the west ridge and returned to the Tasman via this col.
After the first ascent of Green from the west by D A Carty, L J Dumbleton, J D Willis and D J Stanton on 2 January 1938, the party descended to their camp in the Spencer over the col, thus completing the second crossing. They suggested the name ‘Divers Col’ in memory of S D Divers, who died in the Mt Trent accident in 1937 (NZAJ, 1955, p127).

From the Tasman Glacier, either climb directly to the plateau between Green and Walter using slopes under Green’s Big South Face (early season only), or pick a route onto the ridge north of Pt 2258m, which is an exposed snow arete in its upper half. From the plateau to the col is easy.
To reach the Times Glacier, descend steep snow on the Stevenson Glacier, which is usually very crevassed from January onwards.
