The Jollie valley is accessed from Braemar Mount Cook Station Road, south of the Jollie River Bridge. From State Highway 8 between Lake Tekapo and Twizel, use either Braemar Road 4.5 km west of Lake Tekapo, or Hayman Road from the south-east shore of Lake Pūkaki.
The Jollie River route runs along a public easement through private land, so keep to the marked route until you reach the public conservation land boundary at the Pinnacle Stream confluence.
Head of Jollie River
Travel is straightforward to Pinnacle Stream. Upstream, the Jollie flows through a short canyon with heinous scrub on the valley walls. Travel is okay in the riverbed through the canyon. Above, there is a basin with nice flats. Travel from there to the head of the valley is easy.
Pinnacle Stream
Pinnacle Stream leads to the east face of The Nuns Veil and Abbey Pass. Travel up the stream from the Jollie is straightforward. Pinnacle Stream can also be reached from Gorilla Stream by a straightforward crossing of the 2170m pass between The Nuns Veil and Mt Bruce.
