Straightforward on the Tutoko valley side. The steep gully into Cleft Creek has been descended and climbed from below; neither is recommended. Instead, traverse Tarewai to Pikipari Pass.
Camping on the col is a convenient way to access the rock routes on Tarewai’s east face and Milne’s south face. There is a small ledge 100m up on the Tarewai side, with spectacular views of Mt Tutoko and the West Coast. From there itʻs two hours over Tarewai via the North Ridge to Pikipari Pass and then traversing snow slopes to reach Tarewaiʻs east face. From the summit of both peaks it is a short descent back to the col.
It is also possible to crag on the west face of Milne during the long sunny evenings.
