The col has some small bivvy ledges and a large stainless steel water pot. It marks the start of Lindsay’s Ledges to Lake Turner. Descend a right-slanting ramp across a band of loose rock and a steep slab to the snowfield. The col beside Te Wera has also been used to cross to Lake Turner.

Climb the slabs on the eastern side of the Lake Turner outlet and traverse below the West Ridge of Te Wera. Lindsay’s Ledges drop diagonally down to the north from Karetai Col on broken rock and tussock, and then drop more steeply down a slabby corner (a rope may be helpful and can be abseiled to descend, with double 60m ropes – this is marked by the break in the while line on the topo). The bottom of this corner is steep and damp, rather than descend all the way it's best to traverse out – a narrow ledge with solid handholds leads across to rock slabs.
