Approach
To reach the Ramsay Glacier from Reischek Hut, continue past the confluence with Reischek Stream,
ignore the track that goes over Meins Knob, and continue to follow the Rakaia River, in places traversing
through steep bush directly above it, until a stepladder leads to a swing bridge over the river. Cross
here. The Ramsay Glacier’s terminal lake is surrounded by steep and loose moraine, which should be
negotiated with care. Travel is quickest and easiest along the west side of the lake. Continue up the
Ramsay Glacier, bypassing the icefalls on the true left, to reach the upper névé and Erewhon Col.
