Type
Altitude

A difficult crossing between the Makāwhio and Troyte Rivers (II, 2).
From the head of the Makāwhio, climb avalanche debris and a rocky gut to the col. On the Troyte side, traverse down to the left across a long bench. Continue traversing left down a steep and slabby spur on the true right of a creek. Lower down, the creek drops over a waterfall into a snow-filled gully. Traverse left over a tussock spur to gain this gully and follow it to the valley floor. Late season a waterfall is exposed at the base of the gully, requiring an abseil.
A difficult alternative is to traverse over Pt 1671m to Troyte Col at BY14 477 529 and then descend the gully to the north-east.
First crossing: Bill Bridge, Mac McCredie, Maurie Bishop, Bob Borthwick, February 1950
