A significant feature of the Grand Plateau area. Most parties approach either from the lower Linda or beneath Mt Tasman, but a direct line near the crest can sometimes be feasible. All approaches converge beneath a large step of moderately steep rotten rock, which is up to two pitches long by late January. After the rock step, follow a classic snow ridge, sometimes crevassed, to the summit.
Deteriorating conditions on the mid-height rock step over the last few years means that this route is more difficult and dangerous than it used to be. It’s not recommended when the step involves more than half a pitch of exposed rock.
