A collection of remote, but highly scenic, granitic conglomerate sport crags, elevated in the South-Eastern corner of Fiordland, with a commanding view of Lake Hauroko, Tewaewae Bay, and the West Coast of Rakiura/Stewarrt Island. Walk is approximately an hour from the car on the Hauroko viewpoint track.
Groceries and other amenities at Tuatapere, 30+ minutes away. Nice camping at Thicketburn (6km before Lake Hauroko), or on Bates Road at the historic Clifden Suspension Bridge. Rumor also has it that sleeping under the stars on the wharf at the road-end is quite an experience, if you can handle the gusts and the dawn chorus of sandflies! Sandflies seem much less prevalent at the crag, but pay attention for keas.
Turn off highway 99 at Clifden (ten minutes north of Tuatapere) onto the Lillburn valley road. This is well signposted for Lake Hauroko. Follow this road for approx 29km, initially sealed then gravel, to its' end at Lake Hauroko in Fiordland National Park. The rough/steep Lake Hauroko Lookout track is signposted and marked from here.
