Homer Saddle

From the far end of the Homer Tunnel car park follow the gravel track for 100 metres, then drop off the track and head upstream, closely following the river bed. The track can be found again at the lower left side of the tussock slopes directly below the saddle.

In 1935 a resident engineer, John Christie, descended the slopes that led down from Homer Saddle into the Cleddau Valley. This route was later equipped with a fixed wire rope and used to transport pay and mail between the road teams working on either side of the Homer Tunnel.
