Samuel Turner, Edgar Williams, November 1918
Located on
Samuel Turner and Edgar Williams climbed a peak on 11 November 1918 and named
it Armistice Peak. Identifying which peak was climbed later proved difficult,
but Armistice Peak has recently been gazetted. From Dodger Hut, climb through
the beech forest to gain the north west ridge and traverse to the summit.
Excellent views across to Main Divide peaks.

Climbed Animal Crackers and tried to find this descent route last weekend. NW Ridge route was likely misinterpreted from previous accounts as it looked very unfriendly (steep, exposed, gendarmes). We descended the North Couloir, which was loose, unconsolidated choss, and it may have been the original route. The couloir would have had more snow in Nov 1918, so could have been a more pleasant affair. Looked like a regular route for chamois anyways, so likely humans too. Would rate it 2- for summer conditions, and likely easier in winter spring.
