Approach

From the Havelock valley: Follow St Winifred Stream onto the glacier and to about the 1600-metre contour, directly under the icefall. The icefall is usually difficult to pass, so head south-east up moraine and bedrock to snow basins, reaching the dividing ridge between St Winifred Stream and the Forbes River at the very broad low saddle between Pt 2100m and Pyramus Peak. Walk north-west over a shoulder down to a crevassed snowfield, traversing under a rock buttress east of the pass before heading up to the pass itself.
From the pass, snow slopes normally lead down to the Godley Glacier. See Godley Glacier for routes down to Godley Hut.

From Godley Glacier: The Godley side of the pass usually consists of easy snow slopes, but if crevasses cause trouble, traverse rock ledges on the lower slopes of Pyramus or climb over the summit of Pyramus.
To descend to the St Winifred valley, an icefall below the pass usually blocks progress. Instead, head south-east over a shoulder to reach a broad saddle at about 1930m, between Pyramus and Pt 2100m. Descend north into a basin, then descend diagonally to the left to reach the St Winifred Glacier at about 1600m. Follow the glacier down to St Winifred Stream.
