Dobson River

The Dobson (Ōtaao) River runs straight in its wide valley, beginning under the formidable steep and broken south faces of the Sealy Range. The upper valley can also link transalpine crossings to the from the Mueller, Hopkins and Tasman valleys.
To the east, the Ben Ohau Range carries awesome greywacke screes that give relatively simple if daunting access to the crest of the range. Little climbing has been done on the Dobson aspects of the Naumann Range.

POINT (169.92145 -44.0342)

Much of the valley is within Glen Lyon station and the approval of the runholder should be sought before entering the valley. A 4WD track begins at Glen Lyon homestead and continues to Reardon Hut. Cars can usually be driven as far as Irishman Stream.
