From near the head of the South Huxley, ascend the slopes aiming just east of the col and sidle across to the low point on the ridge. There is some danger of rockfall, and it is steep and confined near the top. The south side of the pass generally holds snow or ice until late season.

From Ahuriri River, I,1 | I,1 | 0m | |||||
Follow the north-eastern branch of the stream at the head of the Ahuriri valley up to the narrow pass. The descent into the South Huxley is initially steep, but quickly eases off. Descend slopes on the true left of the stream draining the pass to the valley floor to avoid scrub.
