Starting in Gorilla Stream, climb the chossy rock spur between the two mapped streams draining the north-west face until about 1700m, then trend right across a series of spurs of better quality rock (crux) to gain the summit ridge about 500m west of the summit.

Ascend Mt Caitriana via the south-west ridge, a good uphill grunt from Tasman Point (the base of the spur upvalley from Chop Creek). Traverse over Pt 1904m, and Cow Block Saddle, over mostly poor rock. Gendarmes on the ridge can be turned on the north-west side. A long climb.

Starting in Chop Creek, climb the prominent 900m spur on the south-east face direct to the summit. The lower main buttress of rock is relatively compact and provides good climbing, ‘without any significant technicalities’. Higher up, gullies of snow and ice can be climbed (early summer) as the rock quality deteriorates.
