From the upper Hooker Glacier, climb a short steep snow face, often complicated with a couple of large crevasses.
To descend to the Strauchon Glacier, follow down a long snow slope directly from the saddle if crevasses allow. Otherwise head left (south) about 300m from the saddle to a shingle rib, and then descend this to the lower Strauchon Glacier.
Watch out for icefall off La Perouse on both sides of the saddle, especially in the Strauchon.
