Named by Scott Gilkison, ErniePresland and B.N. Challis who in 1935 spent a
night on top finding it 'as cold as Charity.' The name was also consistent
with finding an easy descent to the west in contrast to their steep ascent
from the east above the Charity Glacier. This route provides rapid access to
the upper Landsborough region from the Hopkins Valley.
