A great winter climbing destination with outstanding views, long easy slabs and a few steeper buttresses.
From the car park opposite West Wānaka Rd, walk about 200m to the end of the cattle yards to find a warratah marking a track straight up steep bracken on the left. Head up this past the odd orange marker, a helpful chain, a fence crossing and a cairn to where it levels off on a broad shoulder of the hillside. Panorama Point is visible half way up the next rise, facing east and with the Wall Of Broken Dreams in profile.
The first wall you come to is the right-most wall, Kiwiana Wall. Proceeding left there is a small corner, Mary’s Corner, an imposing prow splitting the white overhanging face of The Wall Of Broken Dreams from a black slab, then after a zig-zag up a chain-equipped slope there are the buttresses and slab of Winter Wall.
