Rainbow-Ronan Traverse

From the skifield head south-east up easy slopes to Mt McRae. Continue south to a saddle overlooking the Arnst basin and east towards Pt 1915m. Beyond here, the range is rugged and it is necessary to descend and sidle below bluffs, then regain the ridge in the vicinity of Pt 1880m. The range south of here is easy ridge travel, and can also be reached easily via a track up the true left of St Ronans Stream (no longer maintained but easily followed, through open forest into delightful tussock basins). Some superb campsites near tarns.
