Begin at the confluence of the branches draining Rankin Pass and Taranaki Peak. Climb to the edge of the hanging valley to the east, ascend the lower south-west ridge, then traverse right onto mixed rock and snow slopes on the south face. Rock steps could be numerous and difficult in late summer. A steep 15m pitch near the summit is the crux. The north-east ridge could offer a good descent route.
