Cole Spur to Tatare Saddle
A strenuous route has been used from the lower Tatare Stream, which climbs through thick bush up the steep spur on the true left of Negative Creek to reach Pt 1060m, and then along to Cole Spur. Just past Pt 1741m, use gullies on the Tatare side to bypass a difficult section of the ridge crest. From the Middleton Snowfield (where it is possible to fly to), drop into the head of the Tatare Valley and climb up to Tatare Saddle, and then pick a line down to the Callery River.
Roy Buchanan, Peter Gibbons, John Morris, Earle Riddiford, December 1949
Time: Allow two days to reach Tatare Saddle via Cole Spur, and another day to the Spencer or Burton Glaciers
Descending Tartare Stream
The true right of the lower Tatare Gorge has been used to exit the valley, but it requires low river levels and involves several difficult sections and a big climb onto the Cole Spur access route.
