These days, the best route from the Mueller Glacier to the Landsborough valley involves dropping west off the Main Divide at Pt 2240m, about 350m south of the summit of Scissors.
To reach this point from Barron Saddle, either scramble over the summit of Scissors using the East Ridge and the easier south ridge, or sidle beneath Scissors using steep snow slopes on the Dobson Face.
From Pt 2240m, carefully descend the rock slabs, tending right where the ledges and corners allow, to the remains of the Spence Glacier (the ‘Ex-Spence’ Glacier). A couple of short abseils may be required. This section is easiest in spring when covered in snow, but be aware that the entire mass may slide off into the Spence if it’s a warm day! Descend the glacier then follow the Rubicon Torrent downstream, bypassing the lakes on the true left.
There is a somewhat cramped bivvy rock on the grassy terrace at the Rubicon-Landsborough confluence, situated about 50m back from the top of the true right bank of the Rubicon.
