Ngā Poutiriao ō Mauao, the Mauao Joint Administration Board, has decided not to allow climbing on Mauao (Mt Maunganui). The bolts were removed in 2021.

Right of Fatboy, belay at an eyrie between flax and small pohutakawas a few metres above the track. Scramble up the gully to the first bolt on the right wall, continue up the rib to the K2 belay ledge. Move left to the crux wall, and finish by grooving up the rounded crack. DRB.
