The Long Wall is the most popular wall at Baring Head. Facing west, it catches the afternoon sun so is normally dry and pleasant. It offers a good variety of routes and a mixture of grades.
Routes
Reference | Title | Grade | Length | Pro | Quality | Alert | Operations |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 1Sticky, VM | VM | |||||
Gets climbed frequently as it looks like an easy line but it’s actually more awkward than sharing a elevator with your ex! Climb the crack. Finish either straight up or veer right onto the good scoop/block. |
|||||||
2 | 2Styley, VM | VM | |||||
A very elegant little pillar. Climb directly up to the scoop using a high step-up and a long reach. The next move is fun too – get a couple of good side-pulls and do a high-step onto the scoop. |
|||||||
3 | 3The Bulge, VM | VM | |||||
An awkward little climb, this bulge always seems to be a bit short on holds. Climb straight up any way possible. |
|||||||
A | AThe Final Pump, V3 | V3 | |||||
A killer workout. Climb The Bulge, then traverse left with hands just over the lip. Finish up Leap For It. |
|||||||
4 | 4Slopey, V0 | V0 | |||||
Traverse right form the alcove to gain two sloping holds over the bulge. A long reach back will net you a good hold. Now perform a mantel or high step-up. |
|||||||
5 | 5Short Crack, VM | VM | |||||
Hand jam or layback the crack. Or choose life! |
|||||||
6 | 6The Corner, VE | VE | |||||
A popular ascent and descent route. |
|||||||
7 | 7Bucket Route, VM | VM | |||||
A good series of jugs. Alternately, veer diagonally left following a series of sloping edges in the crack. |
|||||||
8 | 8Easy Wall, VE | VE | |||||
Very pleasant. Start at the left end of a low slab: head straight up, using a pinch in the crack to get over the bulge. Good holds appear just as you need them. |
|||||||
9 | 9Middle Wall, VE | VE | |||||
Climb the middle of the wall, using a couple of side-pulls near the bottom. |
